Tony Hawk’s Skate™ 1 + 2 (Xbox Series X) is not just a remaster but a meticulously refined and modernized version of the two best skateboarding games from Vicarious Visions. Far from being a simple rehash, the series faithfully reproduces the level layouts and physics of the original games from 1999 and 2000, now presented in stunning 4K/120FPS modern graphics that bring the familiar concrete playgrounds to life in vivid detail. For Xbox Series X players, this means the near-perfect gaming experience of the last generation, now elevated to an even greater console experience.Series X features native VRR and HDMI 2.1 support, eliminating the stuttering frame rates common on competitor platforms, we offer a locked smooth performance mode with 120 FPS gaming at 1080p. Familiar locations like the abandoned hospital, the second high school, and the mall—but you’ve never explored them like this before. It’s a time capsule with a turbocharged engine.

Why We Loved It
What makes Tony Hawk’s Pro Skater 1+2 truly special on the Xbox Series X isn’t so much the game itself—a stunning retro remaster—but the invisible infrastructure behind it. When Digital Foundry released its next-gen version breakdown, an unlikely winner emerged: Xbox Series X, specifically its VRR (Variable Refresh Rate) implementation On the PlayStation 5, the 120FPS target in Performance Mode is marred by unpredictable frame time fluctuations, resulting in micro stuttering that disrupts the flow of combos; in Tony Hawk’s games, missing a grab is not just annoying, it can cost you the game. On the Xbox Series X, FreeSync and HDMI 2.1 VRR eliminate frame time fluctuations for a smooth 120Hz experience with crisp visuals. It’s the difference between a HD Remaster and the original game.Reside Remastered.

Beyond its technical achievements, this game is a masterclass in innovation. Vicarious Visions understood one crucial lesson: nostalgia alone cannot replace a real game. They didn't just移植 the original code—they rebuilt every level from scratch in Unreal Engine, preserving every slope and track while adding rich environmental details The mall has become a weed-choked ruin; the Santa Monica beach is bathed in golden sunlight; a feral cat darts across a warehouse floor. These are not distractions, but reminders that the world continues to move beyond your two-minute timer.

The combo system is also perfectly balanced. Ollies, flips, and spine transfers (tricks introduced in later games) are seamlessly integrated, allowing for that incredible 1 million combo run in 1999.For those who prefer a more retro feel, you can switch to the Classic Physics mode, delivering that pure, hard-hitting rebound sensation reminiscent of the greatest hits; but most players will prefer the smooth, fluid gameplay.
